Springmark Successfully Aligns and Standardises Active Directory Groups – Leading to Extension of Scope to Provide Long-Term Solution

Customer:

Rapidly expanding UK based organisation

Requirement:

Following a domain consolidation involving several legacy domains in which ’SID History‘ was utilised to maintain access to data, the customer wanted to align and standardise active directory groups. The requirement included following best practice with domain local and global active directory groups granting access to consolidated data, in line with the customer naming standards and integration with data privilege guard.

Solution:

Largely due to the customer-driven requirement on naming standards, a bespoke toolset was designed and created. This toolset included all the logic required to ensure the naming standards where maintained, as well as creating and populating these global and local groups, then applying the groups to the data structure after clearing down legacy permissions on the data.

After the customer completed the alignment using this tool set created by Springmark, the scope of work was extended to include a BAU tool set to create and permission share, as well as create distributed file system nodes and referrals based on the same standards used in the initial toolset. An admin user interface to the existing tool set was also created along with additional functionality to fill the DFS requirement, which is still in use today, over seven years after delivery.
